The Kildare GAA family are deeply saddened by the passing of the legendary Mick O’Dwyer. A true icon of the sport, Mick left an indelible mark on the game, both as a player and as a manager.

His time managing Kildare in the 1990’s was particularly special. He led us to Leinster titles in 1998 and 2000, and he also brought us to an All-Ireland Final appearance in 1998. His impact on Kildare Football was immense, bringing belief, structure, and a winning mentality to the County.

His passing is a huge loss to the GAA community, but his legacy will live on through the teams he shaped and the countless players he inspired. To his family, some who are still immersed in Kildare GAA, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
On behalf of the Kildare GAA Family,
Mícheál Ó Maoláin
Cathaoirleach, CLG Chill Dara.

Statement from Glenn Ryan:
On behalf of all the players who had the honour of playing for Kildare during Micko’s time in our County, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to all the O’Dwyer family.

Anyone who played on Micko’s teams earned that right through hard work, absolute commitment to the jersey and ultimately a love of Gaelic Football, instilled in us by Micko. He brought us from a very low position to almost reaching the pinnacle. He did so by changing the whole mindset of a County, players, supporters and County Board.

His endearing personality brought all these strands together. The result of this were the most memorable, fantastic days that many of us had not seen previously, or since.
As players, Micko gave us belief. As supporters, Micko gave us hope. As a GAA community, he gave us the opportunity to walk around with our heads held high.

We will forever be grateful to Micko and his family for the time he spent in Kildare. We will never forget his contribution to a wonderful time for Lilywhite supporters and players. He leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire Kildare footballers who pull on the White jersey.

Ni bheidh a leitheid aris ann go deo

Rest in Peace Micko
