Training is well under way for the Kildare Senior Football Team’s upcoming fundraising event, ‘Fight Night’. This White Collar Boxing event, which takes place in Time Bar + Venue on Saturday December 10th at 7.30pm, promises to be a high octane, adrenalin-fuelled night of ‘friendly warfare’ and ‘unintended carnage’ as Senior Footballers from a variety of clubs across the county will battle it out to be ‘King of the Ring’ in their individual dual. With 3 sets of brothers on the squad, some battle lines have already been drawn in sparring training, and with the final pairings yet to be decided, tensions and nerves are running high in the camp. In an exciting addition to the night’s programme, members of the All Ireland winning Kildare Ladies Football Team will also be competing in this Fight Night Event to add to a spectacular feast of strength, endurance, power, speed, agility and fearlessness in the ring. With 6 weeks of intensive training already complete under the expert instruction of Ryston Boxing Club Coaches Tom McDermott, Luke Connors and Dave Molloy, this group of Kildare Footballers are facing their biggest fears in an unfamiliar battleground, the Boxing Ring. Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Elvery’s Sports, each player has been supplied with their own individual boxing kit, complete with boxing gloves, wraps and a skipping rope – no doubt some will be using this to great effect with secret training sessions away from the group workouts.
This event will be a vital fundraiser for the Kildare Senior Football Team and speaking ahead of the event, Manager Cian O’ Neill said “every one of us in the Senior Set-Up, as well as our fellow Gaels from the Ladies Football Team, are really looking forward to this great night of entertainment, which I’m sure will be quite ‘unforgettable’ – hopefully for the right reasons!!!”. With regard to the training that the players have been put through under the watchful eye of the Ryston Boxing Cub Coaches, O’ Neill said, “We often talk about the blood, sweat and tears of tough winter training … well there has been plenty of this to date and there will be even more on the canvas of the ring in Ryston Boxing Club in the weeks leading up to the event as player’s innate competiveness and drive comes out even more. The nature of the conditioning training needed to compete in boxing will provide the lads (and the girls) with a great base for when we return to the field on December 1st but equally important, in fact more so, is the hard edge, the physical and mental toughness that you need to survive in the ring – that’s the real bonus of this Fight Night experience”.
Tickets will be available to buy from players, management and backroom members of the Senior Football Team, as well as from Co. Board and Club Kildare Officials from Saturday November 19th. As official Hotel Partners to the Senior Footballers, the Osprey Hotel and Time Bar + Venue will be offering 2 bespoke packages for groups attending the night. The first option is a Pre-Event Dinner Package in the recently redesigned Brasserie Restaurant that is ideal for couples and small groups while the 2nd option is ideal for Christmas Parties and large groups where a designated area can be set aside in the venues with the option of finger food provided. The Sponsorship Drive for individual fighters and programme advertising will also start next week so please support your local club men and indeed all of the Kildare Senior Football Team, in this exciting Fight Night Event.
