This Sunday’s mascot for Kildare v Clare is Sean Dowling from Ballymore Eustace.

Sean has great family connections with Kildare GAA. His great granduncle Paddy “Darkie” Ryan played in the 1927 all- Ireland winning team.

His great grandfather Christy Dowling played for Kildare as a minor and for the senior team during the forties. He was centre half back marking Bill Delaney (Bill was picked in the team of the century in 2000) in the 1946 Leinster final which Laois beat Kildare.

Christy played for Milltown along with his brothers and after he died in 2001 they named the pitch in Milltown after him.

Sean’s Uncle Timmy Dowling played with Kildare juniors from 2001 to 2011 and was involved in the senior team squad between 2006 and 2008 under John Crofton and then Kieran McGeeney.
