The National Electrical Wholesalers Intermediate Football Championship and the Tom Cross Transport Junior Football Championship both kicked off over the weekend with a total of 14 games down for decision in Cedral St Conleth’s Park, Manguard Park and Clane.
In the intermediate grade, there was a couple of notable results with Group A seeing Suncroft overcome a weakened Leixlip side while Confey stepped down to the second tier with a six point victory over Straffan which saw Jack O’Rahilly grab 2-5 for the winners.
In Group B, 2025 beaten finalists St Laurence’s flexed their muscles with a 4-14 to 2-14 win over fellow title candidates Round Towers and Monasterevan had 12 points to spare over Kilcullen.
Elsewhere Milltown backed up a decent Division 1 league campaign with a commanding victory over near neighbours Ballyteague with Grangenolvin adapting to life at intermediate level in their stride when seeing off Nurney in a five goal thriller.
In the last of the groups, Rathangan showcased their title ambitions with an 18 point victory over Ellistown with Pauric Carty, Austin Donegan and Sam Savage getting the goals. The other game in the group saw last year’s semi-finalists Two Mile House have too much for Castledermot.
In the junior grade, the hot looking Group A saw Rathcoffey net seven goals in a big win over the championship returning Rheban while the recently intermediate relegated St Kevin’s had 10 points to spare over Robertstown.
In Group B, Castlemitchell held off a huge Cappagh comeback to win by the minimum and the other game saw Kildangan claim local bragging rights when getting the better of Ballykelly.
The last two games of the weekend were pretty one sided in Group C as Athgarvan grabbed a comprehensive success over an Ardclough side that included former Mayo Footballer Conor Mortimer with the last of the games seeing Ballymore Eustace take home a big win over Kill as they ran out 3-15 to 1-4 victors.
