Back to Basics- An essential Seminar for Clubs, Coaches & Parents

Kildare Sports Partnership is organising a Seminar in the Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge on Wednesday, February 26th at 7 pm which will focus on Children’s Physical Literacy, the importance of mastering the basic movement skills of running, jumping etc.

Ray D’Arcy, RTE Presenter & Chairman of Kildare Sports Partnership will MC the event, which will also feature Dr. Stephen Behan of the DCU School of Health & Human Performance, who recently published findings on children’s Fundamental Movement Skills, which was featured on national radio and television – ‘’One in four Irish children cannot run properly, half cannot kick a ball properly, and fewer than one in five can throw a ball’’ according to his alarming new study.

As part of the event we will have a presentation by Leixlip GAA, who have run a pilot of our ‘’Back to Basics’’ Physical Literacy programme. The presentation will show how the Leixlip’s underage numbers and coach/parent involvement has increased dramatically because of the programme. At the Seminar Kildare Sports Partnership will explain how we intend to roll out the programme to all interested clubs in the coming months.

This Seminar is a MUST for all clubs & coaches and will also feature the following:
Club Volunteerism-Recruit, Retain, Reward by Carol Maybury, Leinster Rugby

Women in Sport Discussion Panel – How to increase participation with Aoife Murray (Cork All Star & All Ireland winning Camogie Captain), Nora Stapleton (Sport Ireland Women in Sport Lead), Alison Miller (Irish Rugby International) & Laura Cusack (FAI Development Officer).

Funding & Training Opportunities for Clubs & Groups – Kildare Sports Partnership

This is an essential seminar for those interested in this area and to help clubs increase participation and coach/parent involvement.
