Supersub Lee boosts Wicklow
Two goals from substitute Mikey Lee secured the points for Wicklow over a spirited Kildare at Croke Park.
A David Harney goal had helped Kildare lead at the break by 1-9 to 0-6, but that always looked insufficient given the strength of the wind they faced in the second half.
Andy O’Brien netted two minutes after the restart and the sides were
level by the 42nd minute. Lee scored his first goal 12 minutes later, burying an unstoppable shot. Kildare looked in trouble but former captain Tony Murphy made a good impact from the bench and they continued to look dangerous in attack.
Harney then added his second goal to give them hope.
The teams were still level when Kildare’s defence was caught out by a
long delivery and Lee made no mistake for the decisive goal.
