Fr Jimmy Doyle, RIP

19.2.1944 – 23.10.2020

Fr Jimmy Doyle, Bishop Denis Nulty, Mary Earley and Mick O’Dwyer on the occasion of Fr Jimmy’s inauguration as parish priest of Staplestown/Cooleragh.

Along with his family, parishioners and numerous friends, Kildare GAA deeply regret the death of Fr Jimmy Doyle, Parish Priest of Staplestown/Cooleragh who passed away suddenly on Friday 23 October while out walking in his native parish of Clonegal.

Fr Jimmy was a Club Kildare member who frequently attended Kildare club and inter-county games. He was a familiar face at many venues and was equally at home at juvenile, minor or adult games. He enjoyed meeting and talking with people and one always felt better for having met him no matter what the place, the day or the hour.

Aged 76 and ordained on 14 June 1974, Fr Jimmy served in the parishes of Kilcock, Muinebheag, Newbridge, Broadford, Naas, Ballyadams, Sallins and more recently as Parish Priest in Staplestown/Cooleragh.

Fr Jimmy’s presence, friendly smile and warm greeting will be sorely missed by everyone who knew the courteous and generous servant of the people of God.

An accomplished hurler and footballer with Kildavin/Clonegal, with whom he won three senior football championships in 1966, ’70 and ’73. Fr Jimmy represented Carlow in both codes. No matter where he ministered, he always took a keen interest in the local GAA club and supported their teams in many ways.

Kildare GAA wish to express sincere condolences to his family, parishioners and his many, many friends at this very sad time.
